CHOQUEQUIRAO TREK 5 DAYS 4 NIGHTS
The archaeological site of Choquequirao, is another extraordinary example of the architecture and organization of the Inca civilization, was a place that the Incas built to celebrate rituals of the mountain and agriculture. Choquequirao comes from the quechua, language of the Inca empire that means “cradle of gold”, the mythical city of Choquequirao is really the lost city of the Incas and is spectacular in beauty and size, just like Machu Picchu.
Choquequirao is located in the surroundings of the mountain of Salkantay (3035 masl) surrounded by the snow-capped mountains of Yanama, Ampay, Choquetacarpu and Pumasillo. Located on the right side of the Santa Teresa River, province of Apurimac. This is a walk of 5 days and 4 nights which you can not miss if you are a lover of hiking and discovering incredible landscapes.

Itinerary
ITINERARY:
DAY 01: CUSCO – CACHORA – COCAMASANA – ROSALINA BEACH
We will pick you up from the hotel in the city of Cusco at 5:00 a.m. heading to the town of San Pedro de Cachora in our tourist transport (4 hour trip). Arriving at this place, we will meet all the people who will accompany us during the 5 days of walking (cook, porters, muleteers, guide assistant). After lunch we prepare our equipment on mules and horses and then start with the walk. After 2 hours we arrive at Capuliyoc (2915 masl), where we will have a beautiful view of peaks and snows of Padrayoc, Wayna Cachora and the first views of the Apurimac valley. Then we will descend towards Coca Masana (2330 masl) where the climate becomes significantly warmer; the flora and fauna begins to change. Finally we will arrive at Playa Rosalina (1550 masl) located next to the Apurimac River where we will settle, have our dinner and camp for the night. Hiking time for this day: 7 hours.
DAY 02: ROSALINA BEACH – CHOQUEQUIRAO
Early in the morning, after refreshing breakfast, we start our hike along a steep trail for an average of 5 hours. This journey is the most difficult of the excursion. We will arrive at Raqaypata which is next to the Chunchullumayo River where we will have a well-deserved lunch. Throughout the walk we will be able to observe a variety of flora, such as orchids, wild flowers; as well as a variety of fauna, especially many birds.
From Raqaypata to Choquequirao (3035 m.a.s.l.) We will walk approximately 2 more hours until we reach the archaeological site of Choquequirao to know it in detail and witness the great architectural skill that the Incas had to build this wonderful vestige. In addition, we will have the possibility to observe the incredible sunset and the majestic flight of the condor.
For tonight and after dinner, we will camp towards the outskirts of this archaeological site. Our walking time for this day will be 7 hours.
DAY 03: CHOQUEQUIRAO – RAQAY PATA
for the third day and after breakfast, we will dedicate ourselves to explore the ruins of Choquequirao. This day we will visit Choquequirao in detail and we will be able to appreciate the sunrise from the archaeological complex.
The citadel of Choquequirao is a magical place full of energy and culture. It will be an opportune unit to appreciate the squares, the sacred fountains, the towers, the agricultural and urban sector. From the terraces we will observe the domains that the Inca civilization possessed, accompanied by our guide who will explain details in detail of this imposing Inca refuge and the importance that the Apurimac and Río Blanco rivers have. Then we will have free time to take pictures and visit different sectors of the archaeological complex of Choquequirao.
In the afternoon we will return to our camp and after lunch we will have a rest time, then we will have tea time and a delicious dinner, and then go to rest and prepare for the next day.
DAY 04: RAQAY PATA – COCA MASANA
Immediately after breakfast, we continue our return hike with a steep descent towards the Apurimac River. Here we will have our lunch. On the way again we will observe beautiful snow-capped mountains and the green landscape of the area. We will ascend approximately 4 hours until we reach Coca Masana and halfway we will have our lunch. Arriving at our destination this day we will set up camp and after dinner we will rest to make the route of the next day (2330 masl).
DAY 05: COCA MASANA – CACHORA – CUSCO
This day after packing all our belongings and having a nutritious breakfast, we will start the walk where we will appreciate the ravine that forms the Apurimac River. Then we will take a new path that crosses the gorge of the ravine, from where we will have one of the most impressive views of Wayna Qalli towards the ravine. Upon arrival in Cachora and after our lunch we will board our bus to finally return to the city of Cusco.

What To Bring
WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING:
- A backpack with a change of clothes for trekking. Recommended: Polo shirts, short shorts and some warm clothes.
- Rain jacket or poncho (plastic ponchos can be purchased in Cusco).
- Resistant shoes, ideal for sports.
- Camera, films and batteries (batteries consume more quickly under cold conditions).
- Hat or cap to protect against the sun, rain or cold.
- Sunscreen.
- Mosquito repellent.
- Toilet paper.
- Snacks: cookies, energy bars, chocolates, etc.
- Water bottle and purification tablets (Micropur).
- Original passport.
Optional: walking poles during the trek, must be covered with rubber.
