The Lares trek to Machu Picchu 4 days/ 3 nights is one of the alternative and adventurous ways to reach Machu Picchu, surrounded by stunning views and beautiful landscapes. During the trek you will learn about the traditional life of the Andean communities. We will cross high mountains, beautiful lakes and different communities, where we will observe the lifestyle that still maintains the local people as the mother tongue (Quechua), we will visit the thermal baths of Lares that, in addition to being a place of relaxation in the open air, will also help you improve your health. We will have a true and unique hiking experience.

DURATION: 4 DAYS AND 3 NIGHT.

Itinerary

ITINERARY:

DAY 1: CUSCO – LARES – HUACA WASI

At 06:00 AM we will pick you up to your hotel in Cusco in our tourist transport and we go to the sacred valley of the Incas, we will arrive at the district of Calca, we will stop to visit the archaeological remains of Huamanmarca (Pre – Inca), where we will appreciate the magnificent temples, streets and the spectacular terraces, we will continue our trip to the district of Lares. We will enjoy a delicious breakfast with a breathtaking view of the snowy mountains. Then we will visit the thermal baths of lares, water de volcanic origin that is considered very good for health, then we will enjoy our lunch. Finally we get ready and start walking for 3 hours, in the course of our walk our guide will share information about the customs of the communities we will cross, we will also learn about the tradition of textiles, the different varieties of potatoes, livestock and agriculture, etc.  On the way we will observe beautiful picturesque landscapes, and many alpacas. Up we will go to Huaca Wasi (3770 m.a.s.l.), our first camp.

DAY 2: HUACA WASI – HUACA PUNKU – MANTANAY – YANAHUARA

We will get up early, after breakfast we will continue our walk to Huacarpunku, from there we will appreciate the impressive views of waterfalls, lakes. After lunch we will have a small break with an incredible view of the valley and farmers’ house (rustic construction), then we will continue our walk to the Yanahuara base camp (3 400 m.a.s.l.), where we will spend the night. 

DAY 3: YANAHUARA – YANAHUARA VIEWPOINT – OLLANTAYTAMBO

For this day, we will wake up with a delicious breakfast and continue our hike with a descent down a beautiful path. We will stop in a beautiful place where we will learn the process of making the “Chicha de Jora”, and we will have the opportunity to taste this energetic and delicious drink, we continue our walk, we will experience the changing vegetation from the scarce pastures in the mountains to an abundant cloud forest. We will arrive at the viewpoint of Yanahuara where we will have a spectacular view of the Sacred Valley of the Incas, we continue with the descent and we will arrive at the place where we will have our lunch. We will enjoy a delicious lunch, at this point we will say goodbye to our cooks and then take the tourist transport and go to Ollantaytambo. We will board the train to the town of Aguas Calientes, along  the way we will observe incredible landscapes of the valley to the liking of the Incas. In the evening we will enjoy a delicious dinner in the village of Machu Picchu.

DAY 4: MACHU PICCHU – OLLANTAYTAMBO – CUSCO

In the morning we will go to the bus station of the town of Machu Picchu, to go to the entrance of the Sanctuary of Machu Picchu, from where we will start the guided tour in the citadel of Machu Picchu, we will tour the main enclosures of the city with our guide who will give us all the information and history of Machu Picchu we will visit places like:  the Main Square, the Circular Tower, the Sacred Solar Clock, the Royal Quarters, among others. On this  tour we invite you to open your senses and fill yourself with the great energy that hides this majestic place.

At the appropriate time we must take the bus back to the town of Aguas Calientes where we can enjoy lunch in one of the restaurants (lunch not included) and optionally you can visit the thermo-medicinal baths that are north of the town (entrance not included).

At the appointed time we will take the return train from Aguas Calientes 2 hours of travel to Ollantaytambo, where the transport that will bring you back to the city of Cusco will be waiting for us.

HUAYNA PICCHU:

  • To climb the MOUNTAIN or HUAYNA PICCHU, there is a limit of 400 people a day, it is recommended to make the reservation in advance. Since, once the quotas for the mountain are exhausted, there is no option to get income.
  • The cost to climb this mountain is $ 65.00 USD, which must be increased to the total cost of the package.
