he trek to Choquequirao and Machu Picchu will take you on an incredible trek over 8 days where you will witness the incredible views offered by this area of the Peruvian Andes. We will cross the Vilcabamba mountain range, with stunning views of the snowy mountains, valleys, flora, fauna and the most outstanding archaeological sites. Itinerary
ITINERARY:
DAY 1: CUSCO- SANTA ROSA:
We will pass at 05:00 hrs to pick you up at your hotel in Cusco in our tourist transport (3 hours of travel approximately) to go to the town of San Pedro de Cachora, once here we will begin to prepare the horses, muleteers and equipment to start the walk and we will have time for breakfast.
We will start the walk with dazzling views of the Nevado Salkantay and the Vilcabamba Mountain Range, after 2 hours we will arrive at Capuliyoc and from this place we canobserve the famous Apurimac canyon. Later we will continue descending through beautiful landscapes and we can also see multiple medicinal plants such as Muña, chilca and more varieties; During the journey we will have time for the AlmueRzo.
We will cross the Apurimac River and continue our hike uphill until we reach the town of Santa Rosa, here we will spend our first night. We will set up our camp and after a refreshing dinner we can rest. The walking time during this day will be approximately 7 hours.
DAY 2: SANTA ROSA – CHOQUEQUIRAO:
After enjoying a tasty breakfast, we will continue our walk to the archaeological complex of Choquequirao, the whole journey will be uphill and a demanding walk that will be worth it.
We will start our walk along a zigzagging path surrounded by vast vegetation, and accompanied by the melodic song of the birds, after 2 hours of walking we will arrive at Marampata, where we will enjoy a delicious lunch, and from here we will have the first views of the Archaeological Complex of Choquequirao. Then we will continue our journey until we reach the archaeological site of CHOQUEQUIRAO, near this point will be our campamento tonight. We will have free time to enjoy the views of the Inca terraces of this archaeological site accompanied by a spectacular sunset.
Finally and after dinner we can rest in the camp and prepare for theadventure of the next day.
DAY 3: CHOQUEQUIRAO – ABRA CHOQUEQUIRAO – RÍO BLANCO
This day we will wake up early to appreciate the sunrise and we will enjoy a delicious breakfast. Immediately after breakfast and together with our guide we will visit the archaeological site of Choquequirao. Our guide will give us details of this important Inca enclosure, it is said that this place would have been one of the real states of the Incas. We will witness the incredible Inca architecture such as: The extensas agricultural terraces, the Main Square, religious and ceremonial temples, aqueducts and water fountains, the constructions of the Stone Walls and more. We will also observe many constructions that are still buried by vegetation. After exploring Choquequirao, we can wait to see the flight of the condors that frequent the site.
Later and after enjoying lunch we will continue with the walk to the Choquequirao pass passing through the archaeological zone of Pinchaunuyoc. Finally we will go to the deepest point of the Apurimac canyon known as Río Blanco where we will camp. Finally, we will enjoy a delicious and comforting dinner.
DAY 4: CORIHUAYRACHINA – YANAMA:
We will wake up early toenjoy our breakfast, we will continue our walk to visit Qorihuayrachina, a place that was discovered by an expedition in 1999. We will continue our ascent through the foliage where we will see the ancient Inca roads and after the l we will descend to the place called “the garden” where we will appreciate countless flowers, being one of the most beautiful places.
Finally we will camp in the town of Yanama where we will have our dinner and we can rest from the long walk of this day.
DAY 5: YANAMA – THE GATE:
We will receive a beautiful sunrise in Yanama. We will enjoy a delicious breakfast and then we will prepare to continue walking and enjoy nature. We will descend to the second pass in a very pleasant and pleasant walkwith beautiful views surrounded by snow-capped mountains, including Sacsarayoj mountain and Padreyoj mountain, as well as waterfalls and glaciers. On the way we will make a stop to have lunch and continuewith the walk. Upon reaching the pass, we will cross and descend to a wide meadow next to a stream of water that flows quickly. Finally, we will arrive at the camp where we will have dinner and spend the night.
DAY 6: THE BEACH:
After an excellent breakfast, thisday we will start with a gentle descent towards the Totora River, in this place you can enjoy a hot water bath that rises from the rocks. After enjoying the baths and lunch we will continue to advance through natural life surrounded by orchids and begonias, and species of animals such as hummingbirds and woodpeckers. We will arrive at a small town called “La Playa”, where our camp will be, we will have our dinner and we can rest.
DAY 7: THE BEACH – AGUAS CALIENTES:
We enjoy a tasty breakfast and then we will continue the walk. We will ascend to LlactaPata from where we can already observe the mountain of Machu Picchu. Later we will descend until we reach the Hidroeléctrica plant in the Urubamba River and after lunch we will continue with the walk that will take us to the Town of Aguas Calientes, town where the Citadel of Machu Picchu is located. If we have time, we can also enjoy the hot springs that exist in this area to relax after a long walk. Finally and after dinner we can spend the night in a lodging.
DÍA 8: MACHU PICCHU FULL DAY – CUSCO:
After enjoying our delicious breakfast, we will go to the bus station with our guide to board the bus that will take us to the Sanctuary of Machu Picchu. We will have a guided tour of the entire Citadel of Machu Picchu and we will visit the most important enclosures with our guide, places such as the Inti Watana, Temple of the Condor, the sacred rock and others.
At the appropriate time we will descend from Machu Picchu to Aguas Calientes to board our tourist train from Aguas Calientes Pueblo to the Ollantaytambo station, where our tourist bus will wait for us to move to the city of Cusco.
